Support Guide

Don’t know what to say? Let us help.

We know that supporting a person living with cancer can be difficult, especially when you are unsure of what to say or what to do. We put together some simple ideas to guide and help you as you support your loved one.
~ Acknowledge their cancer diagnosis – don’t be afraid to ask, “how are you doing?”, no matter where they are in their experience.
~ It’s okay to tell them you don’t know what to say, but remind them that you are always there for them, and you are always listening.
~ Don’t wait for them to call you, offer to help, and keep offering.
~ When you reach out, let them know that there is no expectation for them to respond, you are there to support them, and on their timeline.
~ Remember that the outside doesn’t always match the inside, telling them they look great or commenting on their appearance may not be as comforting as you think. No matter how much time has passed, give your loved one space and time to talk about their experience. Don’t underestimate the impact of a handwritten card, to remind them you care, to show your support or to simply brighten their day.

Receive support.

We know how powerful it is to simply chat with someone who gets it.
That’s why we’ve created the space for those who hear the words ‘you have cancer’ receive the support they need. From attending a Retreat, joining a Local Social, or Sephora’s Brave Beauty Classes, each of our thoughtfully designed programs are here to support you. If you’re looking to connect one-on-one with a social worker or peer, contact us today.

Peer Support Program:
Our peer support program is a place for your peers to provide support for you. Through monthly check-in calls, this is your opportunity to connect with someone who understands what you’re going through. Our peer supporters speak with intention as they listen and understand how they best can support you.

One on One Counselling:
We know how isolating it feels to accept a cancer diagnosis and navigate through all that follows. That’s why we’ve created the opportunity for you to feel supported through one-on-one short-term counselling sessions of 3-6 sessions with our wonderful team of social workers. Join us at an upcoming program to give and receive support.
