Diane's Story

“It has been a year and a half since my world was turned upside down by Acute Myleoid Leukemia (AML). I endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, full body radiation and eventually a stem cell transplant. Thankfully I was fortunate enough to have a sister that was a perfect match and literally gave me a second chance at life. But every day is still a battle. Keeping me grounded and inspired are my two beautiful girls and amazing husband, who have been by my side through every step of my journey. Their support and encouragement mean everything to me, and are what give me strength to stay strong and keep fighting each and every day. I am very fortunate to have a loving and supportive family that have been unwavering in their love throughout my battle. I couldn’t have gotten through the darkest time in my life without them, nor would I have wanted to. Together, we formed a powerful antidote to defeat this disease. Pink Pearl is an incredible organization, and I am very fortunate to have connected with so many strong and inspiring women that share similar hopes, fears and dreams. These women have taught me so much already and most importantly, it is wonderful to celebrate life with these amazing women. Throughout my fight, I clung to life. I had no choice. I am not sure how, but I discovered within myself a strength and a will to survive that I didn’t even know that I had. It was an energy that flowed from my determination to live and love. I had to get up, stay strong and fight. “You never know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have”. – Diane Pike, Program Participant
