“I am 21 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a few weeks shy of my 20th birthday. I underwent treatment at the Juravinski Hospital and received a stem-cell transplant on May 30th, 2013. I am currently back at school and majoring in communications studies and minoring in business at Wilfrid Laurier University to one day work for charities so that I can hopefully make a difference in this world! I am a part of Pink Pearl because I am in love with the idea of being a part of a community where young women can come together and speak honestly about how they are feeling about their treatments. On my first retreat I instantly felt loved and supported by all of the amazing women involved with Pink Pearl! I am constantly being inspired by the members of my family. My parents, sisters and grandmother have taught me the meaning of togetherness by their consistently fabulous support! I don’t know where I would be without their unconditional love!” – Maddie Jenkins, Program Participant, Volunteer & Ambassador
